Antique Bay of Baiae Mezzotint by Will Henderson after JMW Turner 71x56cm Framed

Atmospheric vintage mezzotint engraving titled “Bay of Baiae”, engraved by Will Henderson after the original painting by J. M. W. Turner R.A. The scene shows a romantic Italian coastal landscape with figures, classical ruins and two tall trees framing the bay – classic Turner Grand Tour subject matter.

This is not an original Turner painting but a later mezzotint reproduction, as confirmed by the label on the reverse: “Mezzotint Engraving by Will Henderson – Bay of Baiae – after the original by J. M. W. Turner, R.A.” The print also carries Henderson’s pencil signature to the lower margin and a blind stamp to the mount.

Presented behind glass in a gilded wooden frame with a double-ruled mount. A large decorative wall piece with real period character – ideal for traditional, classical or gallery-style interiors.

CONDITION

Overall good vintage condition with honest age-related wear: Print clean with good colour; some scattered age specks / foxing visible on close inspection. Mount with light toning and marks from age. Gilt wood frame shows chips, scuffs and wear to the edges and corners (see photos). Original backing board with old Hampden Gallery label; hanging wire in place – ready to hang
